Ex pupil Logan Bailey, a dedicated member of the Army Cadets, embarked on a life-altering expedition on the 19th of October, as he joined a group of 20 fellow cadets hailing from all over the UK to partake in Exercise Kenyan Cub 2023. The 10-day mission unfolded in Kenya, where the team was tasked with assisting a local school, engaging in essential maintenance work, and establishing a football academy. This altruistic adventure offered Logan and his fellow cadets a unique opportunity to make a significant and positive impact in a distant corner of the world, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

The journey commenced at Chester train station, where Logan embarked on a train journey to London's Euston Station. From there, he proceeded to ARC Hammersmith to rendezvous with the other cadets. The following day, the team embarked on a lengthy flight from Heathrow to Nairobi, followed by a one-hour bus journey to their accommodation. The next morning, the cadets set out on a three-hour journey to their designated site, where they would spend the remainder of their expedition.

During their adventure, the cadets engaged in meaningful activities, including the construction of benches for the local school. Additionally, they generously distributed stationery and football kits donated by local businesses and their community, enhancing the lives of the local children. But perhaps the most profound aspect of their journey was the quality time they spent with the children.

A captivating safari adventure allowed the cadets to come face to face with Kenya's breath taking wildlife, encountering majestic creatures such as elephants, rhinos, lions, and hippos. Logan also had the privilege of visiting the equator and a white Rhino memorial, deepening his understanding of Kenya's rich natural heritage. However, one of the most cherished moments of the trip was a full-scale football match against the school team, which the cadets won 3-2 in a thrilling penalty shootout.

Logan returned home deeply moved by his Kenyan experience, armed with a newfound appreciation for the privileges he enjoys in his homeland. The resilience and joyful spirit of the Kenyan children, despite having fewer material possessions, left an indelible impression on him. The journey became a profound lesson in gratitude, reminding Logan and his fellow cadets not to take their blessings for granted.
