Merry Christmas!

Dear Parents, Carers and Students

We have reached the end of the first term and what a successful term it has been!  Our new teachers have settled in well and added their unique personalities and skills to our team and they are already making a very significant difference.  I want to thank and commend all our teachers and support staff for all their hard work this year in raising standards and putting the school clearly on the road to success.

We’re very grateful for all the support we’ve had from parents and carers and for the trust you have placed in the school.  Your children have been working hard this term and are doing us, you and themselves, proud.  The hard work and commitment by the Year 11 students in particular, should bring them great success in the summer.  They now know that there is only one more term until they start their examinations and they’re really determined to give their best and get the results they’ve worked for.  We, like you, want the very best for them and we, like you, will do all we can to give them what they need to take advantage of all the opportunities that will be offered to them in the coming years.

Our Airbus partnership has been another great success and the students have just finished their factory sessions for this term.  As always, when our students visit, or meet ‘outsiders’ they receive so much praise for their good conduct, polite behaviour and commitment.  Our students are always giving generously of their time and they, along with Mrs Lewis, are currently singing Christmas carols and entertaining the residents of Morfa Newydd Care Home.  Our students are also working with Mrs Tina Roberts to produce Christmas hampers for those less fortunate in our community.  We are a very lucky school.

The school recently welcomed an Estyn inspection team for their termly review of progress. The inspectors were particularly impressed with the “positivity and enthusiasm of staff and students”, who all made them feel really welcome during their teacher and student meetings.  The inspectors also noted that students felt that the school had really improved and went on to share their recognition of the improvement and progress in the key area of teaching and assessment.  Chair of the school’s IEB, Ray Wells, said, “It’s pleasing to report that Estyn agreed with the school’s self-evaluation and recognised staff for their hard-work and dedication. We’re at the start of a journey to excellence and I must thank the leadership team and all the staff who have shown such a big commitment to school improvement, and all they’re doing to help our students enjoy the success they deserve.”

I want to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas with their families and loved ones and all the best for a fantastic and successful New Year.
