As a result of the improving situation and the number of Covid-19 cases decreasing, we are looking forward to welcoming back all our students over the coming weeks. In addition to the existing social distancing measures already in place across the school and in line with Welsh Government guidelines, Year 10 and 11 students, in addition to school staff, have all been offered the opportunity to take part in the use of Lateral Flow Device (LFD) tests, which are carried out at home and return results within 30 minutes. Hopefully, this will provide more reassurance to families regarding the safety of returning to school.
To support our students and families with the return to what will feel like a new school routine, we will be running form time session every day next week. This will give your children the opportunity to see their form tutor every day at 8:45am. The meeting links will be shared on their Google Classroom form page. Seeing their form tutor every day will enable key messages of support, well-being information and other important messages to be shared with your child/children as well as allowing them to see their friends more regularly.
Feedback from our well-being phone calls suggests that there are still many students struggling to complete the quantity of work online, especially those in examination years. We are therefore going to have three ‘Catch Up Days’ on Friday 19th March, Thursday 25th March and Friday 26th March 2021 for students to catch up on their learning. Teachers will not set any new assignments on these days, but they will be available to offer support if needed. It’s important that students feel prepared for the return to school and enjoy the opportunity for a rest over the Easter break.
I will end by once again offering thanks to our students, their parents, carers, or guardians and to all our staff. What you have all managed to achieve over this past term is magnificent. We can all look forward to having our children back in school and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Yours sincerely
Mr M. Seale
Director of Learning
