Our aims in teaching History are to foster a lasting interest and curiosity in the subject in and beyond school and to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for an appreciation of the enormously rich historical background both in our locality and the wider world. We follow the National Curriculum guidelines in trying to develop a skills and concepts approach while working in a chronological framework.
We strongly believe that the resources around us are likely to awaken a keen historical interest and we make use of field work and visits. The department also invites outside speakers to visit the school, who can provide the pupils with first hand experience of current affairs and recent history. We have welcomed local politicians of all parties, our MP and we have even been visited by a Lord who taught students about his work in London.
